Dawn Hosmer
MBACP  Counsellor

I am a qualified counsellor working in Bishop's Stortford, Essex, and Hertfordshire delivering counselling services face-to-face or online throughout the UK and Europe.

People seek counselling to help them deal with the ups and downs of life. Maybe you've found yourself here because you feel stressed, anxious and overwhelmed - or due to an unexpected life event.

Life can throw us curve balls and knock us off guard, and sometimes we need a little help. Having experience working with complex issues and challenging situations, with people from all backgrounds, I understand how difficult life can be.

Help starts with a conversation in a safe and confidential space. I offer an authentic therapeutic relationship where you can be yourself without judgement.

I work with the Integrative Approach to counselling, combining several counselling theories in my style to be flexible with clients, giving them the counselling they need.

My methods centre on humanistic therapies, putting the client at the centre of the therapeutic process. People know themselves better than anyone else, they may just need some help to understand.

Together, we can work on present and past events so you can manage your life with clarity.

In September 2024 I was on the expert panel of Happiful Magazine contributing to an article on counselling and hair loss

Specialist Services

All counsellors have their specialities, and I have extensive experience in working on the following issues with people of all backgrounds.

Anxiety and Depression

I offer services to equip people with the tools needed to manage anxiety and depression. I provide the support needed to identify the reason behind the anxiety, and make the changes to manage it.

Childhood Experiences

I work with adults who have experienced childhood trauma and abuse that affects their adult lives. From emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Providing a safe space for clients to process their emotions and move forward in their adult life.

Relationships

I offer counselling services that aid my clients in examining why their relationships are affecting them in a certain way, what they seek from their relationships, and how to make changes in their lives and boundaries to improve the relations they have with others.

Grief

Loss affects us all, and in different ways.

The loss of a family member, friend, or beloved pet can leave us feeling lost.

I provide counselling to people bereaved and in the grief process and aid them to come to terms with their loss and manage life in the present.

Abuse

Abuse comes in many forms. Emotional, physical, or sexual abuse can shape the way we think, act and feel. Losing confidence, self esteem and self worth.

My services help you to understand the harm done by abuse and allow you to move forward with your life stronger.

Stress

Stress is a part of life, but in the modern world it often becomes overbearing.

Work, school and financial stress leave us feeling burnt out, tired and unwell.

I can help clients manage their stress better, and adopt behaviours that keep stress under control.
